Since few seasons I was thinking about smaller and lighter rod for trout. I realy like my old rods and that is why I couldn’t make the decision for longer time.
Sentiments and nice memories which I have with my old rod are deep inside my head. I pushed myself to observe the new things on the market but even that didn’t motivate me to change anything. Old, used TEAM DRAGON, length 2.85 m, t.w. 25-60 g was still my basic equipment for trout. I planed my trips mainly with the river Rega and Persęta in my head. That is where I used to fish. The lures which I used , were heavy caliber: mainly trout’s spoon lures and spinners; sizes: 3 and 4. These lures when guided under the strong current of water put very strong resistance on the rod. 5 kg trout was also a load - it could test each equipment in a very short time, especially when towing under a strong current in the trout river. The motive which pushed me to change my trout’s rod was the expeditions on the smaller rivers; e.g Ina. I also changed the lures which I had been using before, this time the wobler become my basic lure on the Ina river. I also decided that the fish which I fish for on the Ina did not require very strong rod. The charecteristic of that river, the lack of the part with reeds so characteristic for the Rega, made me think. I decided that beyond the reduction of casting weight of the rod, it could also be the change in the length. With shorten rod it is easier to maneuver and to throw the lure. On the other hand I know, that the troubles with shorten rod may start when the high water leavels will occure in the rivers, when the access to the riverbed is really difficult. Low temperatures during the trout’s season cause the formation of ice overhangs near the riverbanks what makes it difficult to fish the parts of the river which are free of ice. In these situations the adventages of the longer rods are irrefutable and for sure such rods will be bettrer. For the tests which were to convince me that my theoretical decision was right and to overcome the old habits I chose three rods from DRAGON’S offer:
- Nano FORCE Spinn 42 - 2.60 m, c.w. 10-42 g.
- SPECIALIST Pro Shad - 2,60 m, c.w. 14-42 g.
- GUIDE SELECT Cobra - 2,75 m, c.w. 18-50 g.
Each of the above rods were with me when I was fishing for trout and during very careful testing for my private use I meet various weather conditions. I had a chance to spinn during Spring time as in winter conditions, with ice overhangs under my feet and in low temperature.
